US lawyers are busying rubbing their hands together with glee as Viacom’s one billion dollar lawsuit against YouTube is submitted to a Manhattan court.
Viacom are suing the owners of the popular video sharing service because of their failure to keep copyrighted material off the site, claiming that they have spotted no less that 150,000 unauthorised clips on YouTube. And that’s a lorra clips.

Search engine giants Google have progressed another step on their plans to dominate, well, just about everything, with the launch of Google Health, a health information service that combines their high tech search technology with a user’s online personal health records.

Google extends video playback to Google News.
We’ve known for a while that Google Search has been displaying video results with the ability to expand and play within the search results – in fact it was about a year ago.
The great lumbering behemoth that is Google continues to devours UK search engine revenues, cementing its place at the top of the search engine chart by increasing its return on investment (ROI) by 14 per since the last quarter of 2007.

Search engine monsters Google have emerged at the very top of a list of the world’s most powerful brands, with research estimating the company’s value at a whopping $86bn (£43bn).
Research by analysts Millward Brown put Google at the pinnacle of their annual top 100 global brand power list for the second year running, notching up a 30% year-on-year increase in its value.
Google’s Q1 2008 results have been published with their income up 42% compared with Q1 2007.
The result include the purchase of online advertising company DoubleClick, although Google state that this was “immaterial to income.” (more…)
The tussle between Yahoo and Microsoft has gone through a couple of extra rounds of late. We thought we’d bring you up to date with the current state of play.

There’s a rumour that Google will be launching access to their distributed database service, BigTable, making the same type of database hardware and software that keeps Google running, available to anyone who pays for it.
Video sharing kings YouTube are in the process of whipping up the quality of their video stream, with users increasingly being given the option to view some YouTube videos as high quality streams.
Announced in the company blog, YouTube are keen to make more video content available in high res formats, with users being able to offer their video masterpieces in higher quality streams.
Is Blogging overtaking Social Networking?
The newly released Neilsen Online figures show that Blogger.com, the blogging service owned by Google, reached 5.1 million user in January.
Over the same period the previously-huge MySpace reached just over 5 million and Bebo a smidgen over 4 million.
