Thanks to the European Commission, mobile phone calls within the EU have just got a whole load cheaper.
The Commission has wielded its mighty powers to establish limits on how much mobile phone operators can charge their customers, with calls now costing no more than 34 pence a minute, while incoming calls are now pegged at a 17p/minute rate.

When we first saw the photographic results of a 4 gigapixel camera a couple of years ago, we nearly exploded.
Some clever clogs in the US had taken an ex-Cold War satellite and started snapping shots with it.
The amazing thing was the resolution – 4,000 pixels per inch. Yes, you read that right. See why we had such a strong reaction, eh?

The BBC is to bolster multi-platform commissioning. “Again?” I hear you cry.
Do you remember back as far as 2002 when Ashley Highfield, then Head on New Media at the BBC, was telling everyone who would listen … or write about him … that the BBC wouldn’t commission any new programmes unless they had an interactive media element built into them?

Never slow to innovate, The Cloud is offering the service for £3.99 a month from 1 October, with no minimum contract.

Those who have Nokia Nseries and Eseries phones will be able to buy software, SlingPlayer, to play the video content from their homes to the handsets, wherever they are, from their Sling Boxes.
Quick resume on Sling Box: plug one into your TV at home and any programmes that you can watch can be viewed remotely, either on a computer, or portable device. Not only can you change channels remotely, but control the DVR functions.

We indulged ourselves in a feast of nostalgia this weekend when we chanced across this incredible ten minute animation on YouTube: 100 Amiga games in 10 minutes!
Hurtling through no less than one hundred quickfire slices of juicy action from the Commodore Amiga back catalogue, we were instantly transported back to our grubby 1990s bedsit: curtains closed, Amiga on and basking in the glow of our cream and grey multisync 14″ monitor.

The shares in US VoIP firm Vonage dropped as low as 33.2% down on Tuesday in reaction to yesterday’s patent case order against them. They’re down a further 19.2% 23.1% today, as we write.
Hurrah, we’ve passed 4,000 stories on Digital-Lifestyles now. It’s taken us six years to get there, but come on, we did start pretty slowly.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the people who have made Digital-Lifestyles what it is over the years.
Starting from its blog roots as a research tool for me to prepare for a presentation at IBC about broadband TV back in 2001 (still haven’t really got there have we!), it got gradually more serious until the first major change two years later – another author joined – Fraser Lovatt writing regular pieces in his own inimitable style.

Free mobile phones have been spoken about for quite a while now, well now it’s actually launched.
Blyk is launching with invites slipped into the Fresher Packs at 30 UK universities. Those who sign up will get 217 free texts and 43 minutes of talk time monthly and in exchange have to receive advertising on their phone. Once they’ve used up the monthly freebies, they’ll be charged at Orange pay-as-you-go rates.
