    Boston Acoustics Solo XT DAB Radio Gets UK ReleaseBoston Acoustics has announced that it will be launching, nay unleashing, its first DAB/FM radio for good ol’Blighty, the Solo XT in March this year.

    Packed in a unit with a “pleasing soft touch” (oo-er), the unit delivers twin DAB and FM functions with support for Band III and L-Band, while Boston claim that the radio will deliver good reception in areas with very low signals.

    Ad Revenues And Mobile Web GrowthThere’s still plenty of gold in them thar’ Mobile Advertising hills, with new research from Jupiter predicting revenues to hit 1.3 billion Euros in Europe by 2012.

    Research bods Jupiter say that the growth of free mobile Internet access deals and the ‘limited consumer willingness’ to pay for mobile content coupled will lead to the development of ad-funded business models.

  • BBC iPlayer Scores 3.5m Downloads

    The BBC is reporting that their iPlayer is overflowing with win (as da yoot would say), with over 1m users streaming or downloading around 3.5m BBC programmes since the Christmas Day launch.

    The on-demand Internet TV service notched up over a million users between Tuesday 25th December and Monday 7th January, downloading or streaming 250,000 programmes each day on average during this period.

    One Laptop Per Child Gets US ReleaseThe One Laptop Per Child Foundation has focused its attention on the poorest kids in the United States, setting up a north American office and approaching state governments to get them interested in the cheapo laptop project.

    Dreamt up by former MIT professor Nicholas Negroponte, the One Laptop project was tasked with helping poorer nations bridge the digital divide, developing a cheap (sub-$100) and rugged ‘XO’ laptop which they hoped would be bought en masse by Third World governments.

    Apple may be famous for squeezing tough deals out of network operators, but their attempts to introduce the iPhone to the Chinese market have resulted in another breakdown of negotiations.

    According to vnunet, Apple and China Mobile, the country’s largest mobile operator, couldn’t stop the squabbling over how the revenue should be distributed.
