    Silver Surfers Take To The WebNew research has revealed that over two thirds of all European silver surfers use broadband as their main Internet connection and that broadband adoption amongst the old ‘uns is growing faster than average European Internet users (26% year on year growth compared to 14%).

    According to the research from the European Interactive Advertising Association (EIAA), the growth in broadband penetration is having a big impact on how the old folks are communicating and spending their leisure time, with one in four logging on to the Internet in a typical week. Weekend use was recorded as growing at a rate of 19% year on year.

    For business travellers fed up with tricky trackpads and piddly pointing sticks, Logitech has launched a new cordless portable mouse called the VX Nano.

    Boasting a streamlined design that looks like it was tested in a wind tunnel, the cordless laser mouse comes with a tiny little USB dongle (“the world’s smallest USB receiver for mice”) that slots into your laptop.

  • Samsung G600: First Look

    We went to the Global launch of the Samsung G600 in London last night – the first time Samsung has carried out such a launch in the UK.

    The phone is quite a looker and the first for Samsung with a 5 Mpx camera built in. To match this, is a great display capable of displaying 16M colours, which should flatter the films you can play on it at 30fps, in MPEG4, WMV and H.264 formats.

    The black two-tone sliding handset feels great in the hand, with the sort of heft that conveys quality.

    Ben Lavender, the person who came up with the idea behind the BBC iPlayer, originally called iMP, is leaving the BBC this afternoon.

    We’d been told about the news a while back, but have held off until the information was public. Looking at his Linkedin profile, we see that it now shows his new role, as Group Digital & Product Director at LoveFilm.

    Being gadget freaks (albeit ones with a limited budget) we set about investigating the spec sheets of various keenly priced contenders, and took a trip up to Curry’s for a physical investigation of what was on offer.

    Worldwide PC Sales Up 12%, HP RuleThe world still can’t get enough of computers as second quarter sales figures reveal a mighty 12 percent hike from the same time last year.

    The wriggling bag o’stats from research firm Gartner and IDC put Hewlett-Packard at the front of the sales pack, grabbing the biggest share of the world’s PC market with unit shipments soaring by 37 percent.

    The Servis fridge freezer had been taking a somewhat jazz/funk approach to its duties in recent months, but at the beginning of last week it unilaterally decided to instigate Operation Meltdown.
