There are three Logitech cameras to choose from to get Skype HQ video running, each equipped with Carl Zeiss Optics and RightLight – which makes the most of the light available to create the best image – but with different strengths.
The Quickcam Pro 9000 is primarily targeted at desktop machines with the benefit of autofocus and the ability to take 8Mpx photos.
Retail cost £70.
QuickCam Pro for Notebooks also has autofocus, comes with a 2Mpx resolution, not surprisingly is aimed at mobile users and comes with a travel pouch.

Skype HQ (High Quality) Video officially launches today following its beta release earlier in this month.
It’s a significant increase in the quality of video that Skype can handle.
Apple’s well-oiled publicity machine may well have ensured that half the planet knows all about their innovative iPhone, but when it comes to dipping in their pockets and buying the thing, it seems us Brits are distinctly sniffy, with a recent YouGov survey discovering that just one per cent of Britons polled would be buying an iPhone.

In less than 14 months, Sky Broadband has passed the 1 million subscriber milestone – faster than any other UK broadband provider to date.
Sky has found that around 30% of customers who have joined Sky Broadband so far are new Sky TV customers.

As we expected the 3 Skypephone has been announced today.
It’s a fully-featured 3G Internet phone with Skype built-in, giving Skype to Skype calls and Skype instant messages over the 3G network – all for no payment for calls. To call up the Skype functions, there’s a Skype button in the middle of the handset.
The handset also has Web access built in and the ability to play music from the 3 MusicStore, giving the ability to play over 500,000 tracks.

In an intriguing move, Herr Jobs has now dictated that folks without credit cards will not be allowed to purchase an iPhone, declaring that Apple will “no longer accept cash for iPhone purchases.”
Moreover, Apple will be limiting sales of the hit iPhone to two for each customer in an attempt to preserve stocks for Christmas and stop people reselling their handsets.
There’s been rumours around for a while now about Skype and mobile operator 3 getting together to offer a dedicated handset allowing people to use Skype on the move.

You’ll remember in our world-first review of the 3 X-Series when it was launched in December 2006, we detailed how using Skype on the handset worked.
There’s plenty of people and publications saying that Skype has been a failure for eBay.
Word to the wise – have you noticed that today it’s crossed the 10 million line today. That’s 10m people running the software concurrently. Pretty strong support in anyone’s book, we’d have said.
What with that and the introduction of the Skype High Quality video service coming out soon, it’s hardly a slouch is it?
