    Beijing Could Go Wireless: Rumour: WBFAIt was mentioned at the World Broadband Forum Asia in Beijing that an unnamed Chinese Government Official has said that they hoped that Beijing will become a city bathed in Wireless before the World Fair arrives in China in 2010.

    They also hope for Shanghai to benefit from city-wide coverage too.

    We’ll dig around to try and find out more over the next few days.

    I’m in Beijing for the Broadband World Forum, so thought it would be interesting to pick stories from the local press on their reporting of technology news.

    HTC Smartphone Launch, LondonThere was a large assemblage of HTC bigwigs in town for the global launch of their new Touch smartphone.

    A sleek little fella sporting GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Tri-band radio (900, 1800 & &900), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0, the Touch launches in two flavours: “elegant soft black” and the truly daft sounding, “alluring wasabi green.”

    The big news about the phone – hyperbolically described as, “a watershed as important as the introduction of the mouse” – is HTC’s new TouchFLO system, which lets users navigate screens by sweeping their finger across the phone.

    Avis Offers In-Car Wi-Fi ServiceCar rental giants Avis have starting offering their Autonet Mobile-based Wi-Fi service – known as Avis Connect – in their rental vehicles.

    The service – priced at an upmarket $10.95 (unlimited usage) a day in addition to the car rental fee – lets multiple users connect to each other and to the Internet via a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot device, powered by the car’s power adapter or cigarette lighter.
