    Apple Refuses Cash Payments For iPhonesIn an intriguing move, Herr Jobs has now dictated that folks without credit cards will not be allowed to purchase an iPhone, declaring that Apple will “no longer accept cash for iPhone purchases.”

    Moreover, Apple will be limiting sales of the hit iPhone to two for each customer in an attempt to preserve stocks for Christmas and stop people reselling their handsets.

    Dell Remains #1 in US, Apple Hits 3rd Place - But Not For LongDell remains the King Of The Hill of PC sales in the United States, owning a hefty 29.1 percent of the market ahead of nearest rival Hewlett-Packard, at 25.7 percent.

    The figures come from the latest quarterly PC shipment report from Gartner, who placed a surging Apple in third place with 8.1 percent of the US PC market (in a similar report, rival analysts IDC put Apple’s share at a smaller 6.3 percent of the U.S. market).

    Palm Increases Smartphone Sales, But Profits SlidePalm is still battling to regain lost ground with the company posting a quarterly net loss of $840,000, a hefty slump down from the S$16.5 million net income notched up for the same period last year.

    The company’s downward slide has been mainly caused by the decline of their traditional PDA (personal digital assistants) market, although their well regarded Treo phones continue to do reasonable business, shifting 689,000 units during the quarter, up 21 percent from last year.

    GPL Legal Action In USA Against Monsoon MultimediaUS company, Monsoon Multimedia is being taken to court for violating the terms of the open source NGU General Public License (GPL) of the BusyBox project.

    This is the first time this has happened in the US, as previous infringements have been sorted out through correspondence and talking. Having been through this process already and not getting the desired outcome, the SFLC (Software Freedom Law Center) feels there is on option by to pursue it through the US courts.

    Vodafone Keeps Verizon Wireless
    Early this morning, Vodafone released news that it had decided not to exercise it’s Put option to sell its $10Bn interest in Verizon Wireless to Verizon Communications.

    This is the fifth and last year that they had to exercise this option after Verizon Wireless was formed in 2002 when Verizon Communications and Vodafone decided to pool their US operations.

    Vodafone Chief Executive, Arun Sarin, recently said that he thought the currently value of the shared they hold to be $15 billion.

    It’s understood that Verizon won’t be particularly happy about this, as they’re keen to get their hand on the whole venture.
