UK broadcasting regulator Ofcom has given the big thumbs up for the creation of three spanking new high definition (HD) channels on Freeview from Autumn 2009.
Expected to start rolling out from the Granada region first, Channel 4, Taff-tastic Welsh-language broadcasters S4C, plus the gang of Channel 3 licensees (ITV PLC, Channel TV, STV and UTV) will be able to join HD pioneers BBC and start serving up new HD services on digital terrestrial television (DTT).
First launched in 2000 claiming to be “the first mobile browser to bring the full Web to the small mobile screen,” Opera Mobile has now hit 9.5 beta for Windows Mobile.
Based on Opera’s latest core rendering engine, Presto 2.1, the company claims that their new browser is both the most standards-compliant mobile browser in town and their fastest release to date, with “noticeable speed improvements over Opera Mobile 8.65 and IE Mobile.”

The ‘candybar’ 12.9mm thin phone purrs along on the S60 3rd Edition operating system and packs a 2.6″ QVGA screen (320 x 240 pixels) using AMOLED technology (that’s ‘Active Matrix Organic light emitting diode’ in English).

We’ve been using the vector and bitmap illustration package program since it first appeared back in 1994 as Xara Studio, and instantly appreciated its super-speedy processing and no-nonsense, simple interface, backed by comprehensive help files and handy movies to get users started.
The small box that the system comes in is deceiving. It contains a DECT phone and basestation, but when you examine the basestation alongside the expected phone connector, there’s a an Ethernet connector too.
The basestation is both a normal telephone answering machine and a VoIP capable device which can be used with up to 6 VoIP accounts/services.
