Harmon Kardon GLA-55 Speakers Offer Ice Cool Looks

Harmon Kardon GLA-55 Speakers Offer Ice Cool LooksFor cool cats who demand the iciest of speakers, Harman Kardon’s delightfully daft GLA-55 two-piece computer speakers could be just the thing.

Looking like they’ve been hewn out of a chunk of Titanic-sinking pure iceberg, the see-through speakers certainly catch the eye and the Harman Kardon dudes love them so much that they’ve lobbed the Big Book Of Modesty on the bonfire, proclaiming their icy creation as being, “arguably the best 2.0 speaker system available today.”

iPhone “Kill Switch” Storm

iPhone Given the media’s initial blind obsession with the iPhone, writing about it as if it were the third-coming, it’s not surprising that, true to form, they’re now getting overheated with a possible bad news story.

Tascam GT-R1 Portable Guitar/Bass Recorder Announced

Tascam GT-R1 Portable Guitar/Bass Recorder AnnouncedBack in the day, musicians on the road had to make do with scribbling on the back of beer mats when inspiration struck, but thanks to Tascam’s GT-R1 Portable Guitar/Bass Recorder, musos can lay down the licks in a tick with this pocket sized, high end digital recorder

Looking a bit like it’s mated with a mini-Cyberman, the GT-R1 is a high quality, portable audio recorder for capturing your ‘licks’ to MP3/WAVE at 48/44.1 kHz, 24-bits uncompressed.

The unit comes with a backlit 128 x 64 graphic LCD and and a 1GB SDHC memory card, leaving you ample time to throw some shapes and lay down your finest hammers ons, pull offs, slides, whammy bar wobblings and note bendings.

Tascam GT-R1 Portable Guitar/Bass Recorder AnnouncedThe SDHC slot means that you can add higher capacity cards letting hit your vibrato and go for a bite.

The unit comes with multiple effects built-in, no less than 55 preset rhythm patterns and packs a cunning “trainer” function which allows axe-wielders to rock along to their fave tracks at their choice of speed — without changing the pitch.

The Tascam comes in a rather pleasing orange/red finish which looks like it could survive being stepped on by drunken drummers or being hit by Derek Smalls’ codpiece enhancer.

There’s no UK release date planned yet, but the Tascam GT-R1 will be out in Japan on August 26th, with a retail price around £160 ($310).

Teac Reference DR-H300DAB DVD Receiver - Review Part 2/2 (74%)Viewing tests
The Teac did a pretty job playing back DVDs through a conventional TV and it even had a pretty good stab at upscaling to 720p and 1080i video resolutions, although a few jagged edges and over-bright colours occasionally gave the game away.
