Looking around YouTube this morning we saw that YouTube has a new video player available.
It’s in Beta, natch, and even when it’s selected you still have the ability to switch back if you want.
Always keen to stay on top of how content is being used and distributed, a few of us at DL have been playing around with the playlists and ‘channel’ building abilities of YouTube of late.
While compiling and organising collections of strange video that we found, an interesting options popped out at us.

Video sharing kings YouTube are in the process of whipping up the quality of their video stream, with users increasingly being given the option to view some YouTube videos as high quality streams.
Announced in the company blog, YouTube are keen to make more video content available in high res formats, with users being able to offer their video masterpieces in higher quality streams.
The US public are getting out the popcorn and lapping up Internet video, with over 75 per cent of US Internet users watching a streaming or progressive download video during November, 2007.
In their new report, research firm comScore noted that each user is averaging 3.25 hours of video watching per month, with Google sites – including YouTube – cranking up their video market share by more than two percentage points during October to November, earning them nearly a third (31.3 per cent) of the market.

There’s a couple of changes going on at YouTube that are worth highlighting – mainly because they look like they’re a big improvement, particularly for those who upload many videos at once.
Once a app has been downloaded, YouTube-ers will be able to batch upload videos, rather than having to do them one after the other.

We know that Google is driven by advertising, right?
Well, since buying YouTube, they haven’t plastered the site with advertising, as a less savvy company might do, but they have played around a few times with raising revenue including adding promotions, supposedly linked to the video playing, at the bottom of the video, but above the playing controls.
