FOWA or the Future of Web Apps, took place at the Excel in Docklands on the 8-10th of October 2008 with the conference running on Thu/Fri.
FOWA was all about Web 2.0 or maybe even Web 3.0 or maybe that’s Web 4.0? Which ever way, it’s about the future of Web apps. You’ll have noticed that the clue is in the name.

During a frenetic presentation at FOWA in London, Stefan Fountain from Soocial announced that their contact-anywhere service would be supporting interfacing to Outlook allowing your contacts to stay up to date.
Alongside that, news of a newly supported mobile platform – the Blackberry – was also announced.
No release data were given – but will be soon, the audience was lead to believe.
We’re at FOWA listening to speakers and popping around chatting to people. Suw stepped in due to a last noshow but presented a fascinating talk. It’s slightly in note form, but the essential are there.
Suw looks into how humans (that’s us) become addicted to certain Web sites and services like email.
To build proper social sites, we need to understand how people work – their psychology.
It’s about understanding compulsive behavior.

The latest from the Blackberry stable, the Curve 8900, is now available on UK Vodafone and T-Mobile will have it in the US.
The Curve builds on the success of previous models – some people are even declaring it a combination of Curve, Bold and Storm.
With the screen from the Bold (high-res 2.4-inch 360×480), the 3.2Mpx camera from the Curve, WiFi, GPS and a very strong audio and video player, including divx playback, it’s going to be one to watch.
Big excitement
We’re hugely excited about getting our hands on the Blackberry Curve 8900.
It’s interesting how a couple of months can change the view you hold of a collection of companies.
These in particular center around Kevin Rose and the companies that he has an involvement in – Digg, Revision3 and Pownce.
It’s not long ago – back in March 08 – that there were rumours that Digg was subject to a bidding war between Microsoft and Google. The tech giants were – rumours told us – battling to outbid each other for the blessed Digg. Figures of $200 million were floated, although the accuracy of the rumours was questioned by Digg’s CEO Jay Adelson.
UPDATED:Ben has been in touch to tell us the first event has sold out (Well done!). There have been expressions of interest in doing more of them, so stay tuned and we’ll keep you informed.
