Pirate Party International, the political party closely linked to The Pirate Bay file sharing site, have won a Swedish seat in the European Election and are reporting “significant results” in Germany.
In Sweden they (Piratpartiet) gained 7.1% of the votes, Which they claim makes them “the largest party in the segment below 30 years of age.”
You may remember that the four of the people behind Pirate Bay had copyright violations charges brought against them about a year ago.
Today their trial started with them facing the accusation of “promoting other people’s infringements of copyright laws,” and earning money from advertising on the site.
The representatives of the film, music and video games industry are asking for around 115 million kronor ($13.5 million) in damages.
Charges of preparing and participating in copyright infringement have been filed against the four individuals who invested in and operate The Pirate Bay, a well known file sharing site based in Sweden.

Rockers Nine Inch Nails have released three tracks from their new album, “Year Zero” via the controversial BitTorrent mega-site, The Pirate Bay.
Although the band has already acquired a reputation for dishing out the freebies – new Nine Inch Nails (NiN) content has been available for free both online and on their website for some time – it’s the first time that they’ve released material directly via the torrent protocol.
