More than a month after Amazon let the cat out of the bag with details of the forthcoming new Sony UX490N Micro PC, the unit is now officially up for grabs for those feeling the pint-sized PC love.
Like its predecessor the UX390, the UX490 features the same slide-out 4.5″ screen offering SVGA 1024×600 resolution displaying pixie-dwarfing text size, with a full 64-key mini-QWERTY keyboard lurking beneath.
The unit packs ‘Action Buttons’ for control functions, covering Mouse Left, Mouse Right, Scroll, Magnify Screen (Zoom In/Out), Capture, Centre Button, Wireless LAN On/Off and VAIO Touch Launcher, with a pointing device for getting around the screen.
There’s two built-in cameras (front: 0.3M pixels and back: 1.3M pixels), a built-in microphone, onboard monaural speakers with the Intel graphics chip grabbing up to 251MB of shared system memory.
To keep prying eyes off your collection of porn vital business documents, the VAIO packs an integrated biometrics fingerprint sensor.
Inside, the gubbins have been upgraded to the new Core 2 Solo CPU (U2200, 2MB L2 Cache) with a 48GB solid state drive instead of Ye Olde Hard Diske Drive.
Price at a beefy $2,499, the waller-draining pill is sweetened by a generous bundled accessories package including a standard battery, extended battery and Bluetooth GPS unit.
The Sony should be in the shops Stateside this week.
