Grundig Rolls Out  MPixx Budget PMPsThe German tech company Grundig has released the MPixx 7000 Fine Arts and the MPixx 4000 series of portable media players, which pack a fair bit of technology in a budget package.

The MPixx 7000 Fine Arts, is touted as an advanced multimedia player and comes with a high-contrast 2.4 inch 262k TFT display and a snazzy blue illuminated touchpad (we like things that glow blue).

Compatible with MP3, MPEG4, WMA, WAV, OGG files as well as bought WMA-DRM9/10 music files, there’s also a stereo FM radio with RDS lurking onboard and a handy direct recording function (MP3).

Trusty old JPEG and BMP files can be viewed individually or as a slideshow to woo your chums, with Grundig claiming a battery life of around 20 hours from the Li-Polymer battery.

The MPixx 7000 comes in two flavours, the 7200 and 7400, which offer 2 and 4 GB of storage respectively.

The cheaper MPixx 4000 comes with a bigger 3.5 inch 262k TFT display, FM tuner, support for ID3 tagging and speedy USB 2.0 connectivity.

As well as the 1GB of internal memory, there’s also a SD card slot, supporting memory cards up to 4 GB.

Director of Sound & Digital Media at Grundig, Oliver von Kospoth reckons that by being designed and manufactured in Germany the company is, “far better able to correspond to European tastes and user habits.”

The two models in the MPixx 7000 Fine Arts series will knockout for about 150 and 180 Euro ($200/$245) and the MPixx 4100 model will be priced at around 150 Euro ($200), with a scheduled release date of October 2007.
